Responsive Design

Responsive design, which allows designers and developers to build websites that adapt to every screen size, is one of the most empowering web tools to be adopted in the last decade.
Web design is an extension of page design, and page design was all about crafting the perfect paragraph. To craft the perfect paragraph you need to be working with the content.

We developed the design templates for the site, one section at a time rather than taking on the site as a whole. This naturally had its bugaboos, but the ability to adjust designs in subsequent sprints with minimal drama was a huge benefit. As our thinking evolved on the creative, user experience and content fronts, we were able to approach our developers and essentially say, "Hey, we have some updates to the templates and that work will be part of our next sprint."

Some people take issue with the multidisciplinary nature of Agile but our overriding experience was exceptionally positive. It took our teams several weeks to find their grooves, but once we did, it was a creative if sometimes messy joy. Like a trust fall, or blind spelunking. When you’re all feeling your way in the dark, it creates an environment for bonding – in the best scenarios – and the work, in our opinion, is stronger.

Without question, we were able to produce finished work quickly with team even launched one complex site section during Sprint 3. Our client was very pleased with our pace and the team was excited to see the product in action so early on.

There was definitely something freeing about the targeted nature of sprint planning. When our teams agreed upon the stories for each sprint, we felt cushioned from the distraction and disruption of scope creep. When new features and ideas were proposed, it felt great to not have to address them immediately. We just put them in the backlog and prioritized them later. Nothing was off the table and it allowed us time to make more thoughtful decisions and not respond re-actively.
